Standing Strong is the group name that was chosen by its members to represent a movement occurring at Belleville High School that is focused on raising awareness against sexual assault, sexual violence, and teen dating violence.
The group concept was initiated by 12th grade student, Sheena Williams, and facilitated by school counselor, Alexandra Ciccone. Supported by Mrs. Correnti, Student Services Director, Mr. Rhodes, Building Principal, and the Belleville School District, a partnership was formed with Teresa Austin, Sexual Violence Prevention Specialist, of SAVE of Essex County, a program of Family Service League.
Standing Strong recently launched a campaign entitled, No More/No Mas, in which anonymous pledges were completed by all high school students in English and Spanish and displayed in the hallways to demonstrate solidarity in the fight against sexual assault, sexual violence, and teen dating violence.

In honor of Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, Standing Strong will be delivering public announcements to the student body via the PA system throughout the month of February to assist with the education and prevention of relationship abuse. The group will continue to collaborate with SAVE of Essex County to spread the No More/No Mas commitment throughout the remainder of the school year with focused anti-violence messages.
